After watching the videos on Vision and Hearing, describe how this information impacts you as a teacher
One of the first things colleagues mention to do in class is prepare for students that need accommodations. Since starting to work at a high school, most of the students already have mental and physical conditions identified and I make adjustments to the curriculum and lessons. While that is great, knowing what to look for will be extremely helpful because I work at a high school with many migrant and immigrant students and some students may not have been identified with hearing and vision problems.
As for the immediate impact, I am sure that students that had not been identified as having hearing or vision problems until late in life will struggle learning. The video in the lesson also attest to this, so this may manifest in many different ways in the classroom. It is important to understand that much of the students attitude and behavior may be a reflection of their frustration and teachers need to be aware of this and always be encouraging and have a positive demeanor.

ReplyDeleteEarly detection is really the key! Teachers can be sure to watch for signs of issues with hearing and vision. You are correct working in the upper grades usually they will have already been identified. But there can be issues at any age, so this is really important! My daughter started having vision problems when she was in college. This was the first sign of any problem.
This information is great for teachers to know so they can be doing things to help their students and watching for warning signs. It is also super information for parents!
